Matt Lauer’s daughter Romy crashed into Hamptons fence and fled scene — but left license plate behind for cops to find
Matt Lauer’s daughter Romy, 20, crashed her car into a fence and a sign in the Hamptons over July Fourth weekend — Page Six has learned — but the college student left her license plate behind at the scene for local cops to find.
Multiple sources tell Page Six that the plate on Romy’s Jeep Wrangler fell off in the fender bender, allowing Southampton Town police to later ID the former “Today” host’s daughter.
The daughter of Lauer and his ex-wife, model Annette Roque, has been issued a summons for leaving the scene of an accident, cops confirmed.
Another source told us that a ticket was issued, and that local powerhouse attorney, Edward Burke Jr. is “currently involved in the case and resolving this for Ms. Lauer” with the court.
Burke’s famous clients include Justin Timberlake, and he has previously repped Matt Lauer as well as Lizzie Grubman, Jason Kidd and other VIPs.
A source tells us that around 4a.m. the morning of July 5, a 911 call was made about a crash on North Sea Mecox road by a concerned neighbor who had heard a loud noise, and was worried someone was hurt.
When police arrived, we’re told, a fence and a sign were downed — but the driver took off and left their license plate in the aftermath.
The night of July Fourth, Romy had posted a TikTok clip of herself and two pals dining at sushi spot Kissaki in nearby Water Mill.
In the social media post, the pals mouth the words, “I just got three things to say: God bless our troops, God bless America and gentleman, start your engines!”
(That’s a viral 2007 quote that comedian Kevin James made famous at the Daytona International Speedway. The actor riffed on it again recently at a Mets game this month.)
Romy was last in the news when her dad appeared singing and dancing in a series of videos on her social media feed in 2019 — his first foray back into the public eye after being fired from his high-profile anchor gig at NBC’s “Today” following allegations of “inappropriate sexual behavior.”
Lauer and Roque were married in October 1998.
She filed for divorce in 2006, citing, “cruel and inhumane” behavior, but then withdrew the filing.
The couple then split in 2017 when Lauer faced numerous allegations.
In July 2019, they filed paperwork for an uncontested divorce and their multimillion-dollar settlement included Roque getting their Hamptons horse farm in Water Mill.
Romy, like Roque, is an avid equestrian, and has competed in the Hampton Classic. Lauer and Roque also share sons Jack, 23, and Thijs, 17.
A rep for Matt Lauer did not immediately comment.
